| Clear signage on well located bins. |
There are many on-site practices that affect the amount of material waste generated. They include:
- Keeping the site tidy: so that materials are less likely to get damaged or lost (and having the extra benefit of increasing site safety).
- Good material storage: to prevent loss from weather or other damage, as well as providing secure storage for hazardous materials.
- Good recyclables Storage: where bins are clearly marked to aid separation, and at same distance to job as waste bins.
- Centralised cutting areas: where possible, to encourage the use of offcuts for jack studs, blocking and nogs.
- Arrange for 'just-in-time' delivery: to reduce the chance of damaged (or stolen) materials.
- Packaging waste: can be reduced by asking suppliers to deliver in sturdy, returnable pallets and have them back-haul empty containers when delivering goods.
