Key Steps to Resource Efficiency
Develop a Waste Management Plan

A Waste Management Plan is the written form of what must be done to achieve the goals you have set. The waste management plan for each project will usually be the responsibility of the main contractor. The plan should specify

  • Who is responsible for each aspect of the plan
  • What will be done to meet the waste minimisation targets
  • Where materials should be placed
  • When each action should be undertaken
  • How traditional operating practices have been modified.

All contract documents should have a copy of the waste management plan. Waste management requirements should be clearly outlined in the bid package so that bidders understand what will be expected of them.

The following is an example of a clause inserted into a contract document as part of a REBRI project

"The Subcontractor is aware this is a REBRI project and shall make every effort to cooperate with the recycling program. The Subcontractor shall attend an orientation meeting with the on-site recycling personnel when starting work at the job site. The Subcontractor shall also submit an itemised quantity breakdown (in tonnes or m3) of material removed from the job site, how much of this was recycled and where the materials were recycled. Subcontractors shall submit a copy of the recycling worksheet at the orientation meeting. A sample copy of the worksheet has been enclosed with the Subcontract for your use."
